AUBURN, Mass. – An EKG screening event, rivalry football game, popcorn sale, waffle breakfast and Cub Scout open house highlight the events around Auburn this weekend. For more of what’s happening in the region, see our Events page.
Friday, Sept. 28
Cub Scout Pack 53 Open House: The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church. The open house includes the Pack 53 Cub Scout Olympics. All boys in grades 1-5, and their families, are welcome. Finz from the Worcester Sharks will make an appearance at the event. “We have a full year of exciting activities planned,” the open-house flier notes. “You won’t want to miss out on all the hikes, overnights, group outings and community service opportunities, plus our annual Cake Bake contest, Pinewood Derby and Snowbox Derby.” The event will go on rain or shine.
Saturday, Sept. 29
EKG Screening at Auburn High School: There will be free electrocardiogram heart screenings for up to 250 students at the high school, starting at 9 a.m. An EKG is a painless test that records the heart’s electrical activity. It shows how fast the heart is beating and whether the rhythm of the heartbeat is steady or irregular. Doctors use EKGs to detect and study many heart problems, such as heart attacks and heart failure. If there’s a concern with an EKG, the student will be referred to his or her doctor for a follow-up.
To register a student for an appointment, send an email to auburnwatch@gmail.com. Provide age of child, contact phone number and email in your request. If you don’t have email, call 508-335-5040. The event also needs medical personnel and parent volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, send an email to auburnwatch@gmail.com.
Auburn Waffle Festival: The Auburn Waffle Festival is scheduled from 9:30-11 a.m. at The Lodge at Eddy Pond, and the public is invited. Tickets, $7 for adults, $4.50 for children under 12, can be purchased at the Auburn Senior Center front desk or at the breakfast. The lodge is at 669 Washington St. Proceeds benefit the Auburn Historical Museum and the Friends of the Auburn Senior Center Association.
Football Team Hits the Road for Saturday Football: The Rockets’ fourth game of the season is at Millbury on at 3 p.m. Both teams are 3-0 heading into the crucial contest. Head coach Jeff Cormier said the team has a tough test in front of them, especially stopping Millbury fullback Ross Sudar, who he called a “heck of a player.”
Cub Scout Pack 53 Popcorn Fundraiser: The Auburn Cub Scout Pack 53 will be holding its annual popcorn fundraiser at the Auburn Post Office from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The money raised from this annual popcorn sale provides the necessary funds to support the numerous activities, events and overnight trips planned for the scouts of Pack 53 throughout the year.
