AUBURN, Mass. – State Sen. Michael Moore (D-Millbury) will be dishing out free, frozen treats at the Auburn Senior Center on Aug. 13.
Moore’s annual ice cream social at the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. There will also be music by George Lear on the piano.
“It’s a great way to stay in contact with the seniors,” Moore said. “It’s great to be able to sit down with them and talk with them on a one-on-one basis.”
Moore will be serving ice cream with cherries, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
“With this terrible heat in the summer, it’s one of the best ways to cool off,” Moore said. “I hope many seniors are able to make it. It’ll be great to see them all.”
Moore recently visited seniors in Leicester with state Rep. John Binienda (D-Worcester) at an ice cream social for the residents and patients of Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation — The Meadows.
Since he took office in 2008, Moore said, he has held ice cream socials and/or cookouts each summer in all the senior centers in his district. These municipalities include Auburn, Grafton, Leicester, Millbury, Northbridge (Wards 2 & 4), Shrewsbury, Upton, and Worcester (Wards 5-7, Ward 8 - Precincts 1 & 5).
In addition, during the winter holiday season, Moore said he holds full turkey dinners at all the senior centers.
