AUBURN, Mass. - McCoy's Action Karate in Auburn will be holding a Yard Sale Fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 21. All proceeds will be donated to the upcoming 2011 Relay For Life of Central South County that will be held at Lemanksy Park in September.
This year, McCoy's Action Karate has two teams participating in the relay including their teen group, the M.A.K. Ninjas and their adult group, the MAK Samuaris. The fundraiser will be held at the karate studio located at 770 Southbridge Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"At McCoy's Action Karate we believe in teamwork, perseverance, knowledge and power. We believe we can make a difference," MAK Ninjas team leader Tena Black said.
"At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. As a recent cancer survivor I have learned that it is important to keep a positive outlook and never give up hope. There is light ahead and many people who are there to lend a hand," she said.
"Imagine you are diagnosed; you are struggling day to day just to survive. Unfortunately this is the scenario that many people face each day. The ability to get out of bed, make breakfast, take a shower, go to work, play with your kids...these are just a few of the things we take for granted," Black said.
Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, and one dollar at a time. The MAK teams are doing their part to make sure that new treatments continue to be found.
So far, the 2011 Relay For Life of Central South County has raised approximately $14,549 with 29 teams and 187 participants. Click here to donate!
