Hastings Resident, Anna Puzio Dies at 96

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Anna Puzio, a resident of Andrus on Hudson, died Dec. 19. She was 96.

Born in Bayonne, N.J., she moved to Ukraine as a young girl. In 1939, she returned to the United States and settled in Yonkers. On Oct. 4, 1942, she married Casimir "Sam" Puzio and they moved to Hastings in 1963 to raise their family.

Puzio was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Society, Golden Agers and Ladies Auxiliary of the parish. 

She was past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Beatrice Gorman Post 200 Ladies Auxiliary in Hastings and a member of the Hastings Canteen and Hastings Mothers' Club.

Puzio is survived by her daughter Jane Hoffman, her sons Billy (Carol Ann) Puzio and John (Adrienne) Puzio, her stepbrother Peter, her stepsisters Stephanie and Peggie and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Sam in 1971, her brothers Michael and John, her sisters Helen and Sophie and a son-in-law.

Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, with a funeral service Panakhyda at 8:30 p.m. The funeral of Devine Liturgy will begin at 10 a.m on Friday at St. Michael's Church in Yonkers.
