Darien Hoopsters Hit the All-Star League

DARIEN, Conn. — The Phoenix U-14 boys basketball team had mixed results in two games in Desantis Fall League play this week. Phoenix fell to New Haven County Orange, 41-36, but defeated Connecticut Premier Hoops, 51-33.

The Phoenix is an all-star team with some of the top seventh- and eighth-grade players in lower Fairfield County. The team includes four Darien seventh-graders: Alex Preston, Carter Scott, Zak Swetye and Charlie Wright. The foursome also played for the Phoenix team during the spring season, when the squad collected three tournament championships.

During fall, some of the best all-star team action in the area is the Desantis League. Joe Desantis is the former Quinnipiac College men's basketball coach who now hosts leagues and clinics for promising young players.
