Greenwich Golfer Near Lead at Met Open

Danny Balin of Burning Tree in Greenwich stands in seventh place entering the final round of the Metropolitan PGA Open Championship at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, N.Y.

Mike Ballo of Woodway, Ryan Kalista of Innis Arden and Jerry Courville of Shorehaven are other area pros who survived the 36-hole cut. The final round will be played Thursday.

Balin followed his opening 67 with a 73 on Wednesday. He stands at 140, four shots behind leader Morgan Hoffman. Balin had three birdies but took a seven on the par-4 ninth hole. He also had three bogeys on the par-70 course.

Kalista shot 71 on Wednesday and is tied for 12th. Ballo posted a 74 after an opening 71. The first-year pro from Stamford was 1-under at the turn but shot 39 on the back nine. He is tied for 29th. Courville fired a 32 on the front on Wednesday. He finished with a 70 after shooting 77 in Tuesday's opening round. Complete scores are available on the MGA website.
