Emilia Francis, 93, Formerly Of Danbury, Worked For Sperry Corporation

GAYLORDSVILLE, Conn. - Emilia (Nunes) Francis of Gaylordsville, formerly of Danbury, died Tuesday, Dec. 3. She was 93.

Francis was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Bristol, R.I., daughter of Jose and Maria (Gonsalves) Nunes. She returned to Portugal as an infant with her family and attended schools in Portugal. She returned to the United States in 1936 settling in Danbury. She assisted her husband in the Francis Dry Cleaners and Tailors of Danbury and also was employed with the Sperry Corporation. She was a member of the Portuguese American Club and had sung in their minstrel shows. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Kent and a former member of St. Gregory the Great Parish of Danbury.

Francis is survived by her sons, Jack Francis, Jr. (Rita) of Danbury and Vic Francis (Marge) of Gaylordsville; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Jack Francis, Sr.

Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
