Westhill Runners Qualify for State Open

Two relay squads from Westhill High School's girls track team qualified for the State Open, and Nicole Ambrossechio and Dillin Smith had terrific individual performances for the Vikings at Saturday's Class LL track and field meet at the New Haven Athletic Center.

Westhill's 4x200 team of Kiara Kalloway, Lizzie Van Name, Julia Busto and Monique Loney took fifth in 1:53.15. The sprint medley team took sixth with Loney, Busto, Van Name and Ambrosecchio. And Ambrosecchio added a school record with a fifth-place finish in the 1,000 in 3:05.84.

Smith, a senior, took third in the 55-meter dash and the 300. In the 300, Smith came in with a seeded time of 38.14, and he shaved over a second off that by running 36.89. He is seeded 13th for Saturday's State Open in that event, and is seeded 19th in the 55 meter dash.
