Auburn's Relay For Life Plans Busy Event

AUBURN, Mass. – Residents will be fighting cancer next week by walking around and around the track in Auburn’s Lemansky Park to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The Central South County Relay for Life has released its hour-by-hour schedule:

Friday, Sept. 7

Set Up: Teams set up and decorate their sites from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registration: Teams and survivors not pre-registered will register and get shirts. 5 to 9 p.m.

Opening Ceremony: Teams, survivors, dignitaries and visitors will be welcomed. 6 to 6:15 p.m.

Survivors Lap: Survivors and caregivers open relay with lap around track. 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. Then all teams start walking around track.

Live Entertainment: A local band called “The Otters” will play music. 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Survivor Reception: Survivors are entertained with a meal. 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Team Recognition: Teams will gather and walk as a unit to be introduced and recognized. 7-8 p.m.

Luminaire Sales and Relay Store: Teams and guests may purchase and decorate Luminaire bags. Relay of Life brand items are sold in the relay store. 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Drawing Tent: Drawing tent is open to obtain tickets and view items. 5 to 9 p.m.

Luminaire: Lights are dimmed and candles are lit. There will be a silent walk around the track to celebrate those who beat cancer, remember those who have passed away and recognize those who are currently enduring treatment. 9 to 10 p.m.

CPS3: The American Cancer Society will launch a new cancer study and will distribute information to those who wish to participate. 5 to 8 p.m.

Clown: Maggie the Clown will make balloon animals and entertain. 6 to 9 p.m.

Quiet Time: Lights are dimmed and voices lowered to allow those not walking to rest and relax. 10 p.m.

Various Offerings: There will be food for sale, entertainment and other offerings during the entire event.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Drawing: The drawing tent reopens. 7 to 10 a.m.

DJ: Greg Engval, a local DJ, will entertain and make announcements. 8 a.m. to noon.

Wake-Up Call: Greg Engval will make his annual wake-up announcement to get those who have been asleep to wake up and get moving. 8 a.m.

Morning Stretch: Teams will be invited to stretch and get their bodies moving. 8:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Registration: Registration will re-open for new visitors and late arrivals. 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Zumba: Teams and guests may join in. 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Dance Demo: Boucher School of Dance will entertain. The time is not yet confirmed.

Karate Demonstration: McCoys Action Karate will entertain. 9 to 10 a.m.

Fight Back: A Fight Back ceremony and surprise pound auction will be held. 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Drawing: Drawings will be held for donated items and winners will be announced.

Closing Ceremonies: Noon

The 18-hour event raises money for research and development of better cancer treatments, with the eventual goal of finding a cure.

The Relay for Life invites the general public to stop by at the event.
