AUBURN, Mass. – As Veterans Day approaches in November, Auburn is planning events to honor residents who have served in the armed forces:
Veterans Day Salute
The sixth annual William Emmett Memorial Veterans Day Salute is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks.
This event is open to “anyone wishing to attend and help salute our veterans for their service,” according to Larry Corbin, director of veterans services in Auburn. Tickets cost $10 per person and will include a complete buffet meal and entertainment by Dana Z as Elvis with his band.
“It will be an excellent buffet as always,” Corbin said. “And Dana Z does this for us at a very, very cut rate. He does a lot of concerts for us, and he’s very good. It’s a lot of fun, and everyone likes to see him come back.”
This event will begin at noon with the opening ceremony, posting of POW/MIA missing man table, and the singing of the national anthem by Doris Mountain, an Elks Lodge vocalist.
The buffet menu will be prepared by Bill Coakley and served at 1 p.m. Entertainment will begin at 2 p.m.
“This is a wonderful event for all to enjoy and we encourage veterans and their families and friends to attend,” Corbin said. “Bring the family and friends and enjoy a great afternoon of food and entertainment.”
Seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased at the Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks, located at 754 Southbridge St.
Veterans Job Fair
This year’s Veterans Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 16.
The event is once again at the Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks with more than 30 employers registered to attend. Corbin said the job fair is always popular and is open to all job seekers, including both veterans and non-veterans.
Corbin said that attendees should dress accordingly; it may be cold, snowy, rainy or chilly, like last year. Last year’s event drew over 800 job seekers from around the state.
