AUBURN, Mass. – Hometown Bank will have a grand opening celebration for its new Auburn branch on Saturday, Sept. 15, with games, prizes, giveaways and food. Town officials, area legislators and Chamber of Commerce members will be on hand to welcome the new bank.
The new branch at 569 Southbridge St. in the Heritage Mall will be unveiled to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.
There will also be a special appearance and prizes presented by representatives of WXLO 104.5FM. And attendees will have a chance to win a 46-inch Sony LCD television and tickets/backstage passes to a November Justin Bieber concert.
Coffee and pastries will be served in the morning, and there will be hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and popcorn later.
Hometown Bank sponsored two concerts in Auburn this summer, donating $5,000 to the Summer in the Park Concert Series at the Pappas Recreation Complex.
“I heard from the bank’s board of trustees, and they want to work with the community as they open a new branch at Heritage Plaza,” said Town Manager Julie Jacobson. “They wanted to make a donation to something that would benefit the entire community.”
The new 3,000-square foot, full-service branch is the bank's sixth location. It will offer personal and business banking and employ five to seven people .
Hometown Bank originated in Webster as Webster Cooperative Bank in 1889 and operated at the same location for 100 years. The name was changed to Hometown Bank in the mid-1990s, and by 2001 branch offices were added in Oxford and Sturbridge.
In 2011, the bank gained new offices in Athol and South Lancaster when Athol-Clinton Cooperative Bank merged into Hometown Bank, bringing the total number of branches to five. A new Webster branch is also under construction, with an estimated completion date in early 2013.
