AUBURN, Mass. – Thanksgiving night is when many spend time with family and friends, eating apple and pumpkin pie and catching some exciting football action. But for others, it will be the perfect time to start lining up in Auburn to shop for the next holiday.

At 12:30 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, the Auburn Mall will open its doors to launch the holiday shopping season. This marks a change from last year’s 4 a.m. opening for most Simon malls in the region.

The mall will remain open Nov. 23 until 10 p.m. to “give shoppers all the time they need to take advantage of the holiday sales and promotions offered on Black Friday.”

Jillian Kuzyk, spokesperson for the mall, said Macy’s and Macy’s Home will open at 12:30 a.m.

“Each store has the opportunity to open at 12:30 a.m., but that will vary store to store and mall to mall,” Kuzyk said. “Shoppers should call ahead to find out, check Auburn Mall’s Facebook page for updates and the store’s websites for confirmation of the Black Friday opening.”

In other states, some malls are opening before midnight, but in Massachusetts, blue laws forbid stores to open on Thanksgiving.

Shoppers can expect the following at the Auburn Mall on Black Friday:

  • Simon’s free mobile app for iPhone and Android, which allows shoppers to check mall hours and special deals and promotions, download maps and directions, check gift card balances and much more.
  • Greeters: All Simon malls will have greeters on Black Friday, and some will have them during peak shopping times during the entire holiday season; the greeters are a resource for shoppers to check in to get the latest information about the deals and promotions being offered that day.
  • The Rejuvenation Station: Shoppers will have a place to unwind during the holiday season in big comfy chairs and sofas. Shoppers can take advantage of free Wi-Fi and experience a more indulgent shopping environment.
  • Gift wrap stations benefiting various local charities.
  • Holiday entertainment: Local holiday entertainment, including carolers, choral groups and other merry-makers, will perform for holiday shoppers, adding to the festive holiday family environment.
  • Santa and holiday pet photos: Families can capture the moment.
  • The American Express/Simon gift card: This gift card is available at Simon malls across New England. The card comes in festive holiday designs and has no monthly fees or expiration date on funds. It is available in any denomination between $20 and $500.

really guys? Happy Thanksgiving workers come in at midnight. This stuff is so unneeded it's not like people aren't going to spend if you wait a few hours. Plenty of online deals anyways less the hassle.
